Matthew Blinkhorn is a former professional striker closely linked with Blackpool FC, having represented his hometown club in two separate spells during his career. Born in Blackpool on 2 February 1984, Blinkhorn rose through the youth system at Bloomfield Road and made his senior debut in 2001. A determined and industrious forward, he went on to make more than 100 appearances in all competitions during his first spell between 2001 and 2006. While not always a regular starter, he was respected for his work ethic, movement and commitment to the team.

After leaving Blackpool, he built a solid career across the Football League and non-league levels, turning out for clubs including Morecambe (featured in background image), Bury, Accrington Stanley, York City and Fleetwood Town. His time at York City proved especially notable, as he played a part in their promotion back to the Football League in 2012. Over the years he established himself as a reliable striker and experienced squad member wherever he played. He returned to Blackpool in 2014 during a challenging period for the club. Although results were difficult at the time, supporters welcomed back a local player with genuine ties to the area and the club’s identity.

Away from football, Blinkhorn married Fleetwood-born actress Kelsey-Beth Crossley on 19 April 2026. Crossley is best known for her role as Scarlett Nicholls in Emmerdale. On the same day, the couple were seen walking along Blackpool’s seafront at the Comedy Carpet, marking the occasion against one of the town’s most iconic backdrops. Their wedding brought together two well-known Fylde Coast figures, blending Blackpool’s sporting heritage with its connection to television and the performing arts. Today, Matthew Blinkhorn remains recognised as a proud local footballer whose career — and personal milestones — are firmly rooted in the Fylde Coast.
