Resources
It could be easily argued that without the people and organisations listed below that this website would not exist. At the very least they are responsible for what is best about this website.
Deeper Blue
The team at Deeper Blue are responsible for building this website and feel privileged to document the many great people, organisations, companies and creative talents from Blackpool and the other fine towns that make up the Fylde Coast.
Wikipedia
Without Wikipedia, this website would have taken many times longer to create, so Blackpool Timeline recommends it as a terrific resource for research. We are especially grateful for its historical content and their links to images on Wikimedia Commons, many of which are featured here on this website.
Alamy
We thank Alamy for providing the images that bear its name throughout this website. These images are protected and not free to use but can be licensed from the Alamy website.
Karl Bartoni
Karl Bartoni has made a valuable contribution to Blackpool Timeline by sharing his personal recollections, photographs and first-hand experiences from a lifetime spent entertaining audiences in Blackpool. His memories provide a unique insight into the town’s rich history of magic, escapology and show business, helping to preserve stories that might otherwise have been lost. We are extremely grateful to Karl for his generosity, enthusiasm and continued support in documenting an important part of Blackpool’s entertainment heritage for future generations.
Sean Conboy
Sean Conboy is a terrific photographer and has been engaged on numerous occasions by Deeper Blue for its corporate brochures and websites. But he’s done so much more in Blackpool and around the world. Here’s a link to his Timeline post. Deeper Blue would recommend him to anyone who needs seriously good, thought-provoking photography.
Marilyn Read
A very special thanks goes out to Marilyn Read for providing general inspiration and two terrific photo exclusives: one for Roy Castle and the other for Princess Diana.

Anne Charlesworth
Blackpool historian Anne Charlesworth has become a familiar and respected voice in the town’s heritage community, drawing on years of research and a long career in education to bring Blackpool’s past to life. A retired teacher, Charlesworth has spent the past decade focusing on local history, a role reflected in her public profile and her regular involvement with civic and cultural organisations across the Fylde coast. Best of all, she has been very supportive of Blackpool Timeline and we certainly appreciate it!
Fylde Coast Resilience
Fylde Coast Resilience is focused on making a difference in the region by bringing the VCFSE as well as the private and public sectors together to provide knowledge, information and support to businesses and organisations, helping them to make positive, powerful connections though the expertise of others within their community. They also welcome would-be and established entrepreneurs that are looking to start a new business or community organisation.
David Hulme
Blackpool Timeline extends its sincere thanks to David Hulme for generously contributing photographs from his personal collection. During a career spanning around 30 years as a rigger on Blackpool Tower, David played a vital role in maintaining and preserving one of Britain’s most iconic landmarks. His unique knowledge, experiences and historic images provide an invaluable insight into the Tower’s rich heritage, and we are grateful for his support in helping to preserve and share Blackpool’s history.
The Gazette
Blackpool owes so much to The Gazette for its amazing photography and thorough coverage of Blackpool’s colourful history, much of which we wished we could use on this website. Nevertheless, it has often been a source for inspiration when looking for new timeline content.
Visit Blackpool
Great thanks goes out to Visit Blackpool for what it does for the town and their efforts and fantastic results with Showtown Museum, which is highly recommended by Blackpool Timeline and a must-see for anyone who comes to Blackpool for a visit.
ChatGPT
Blackpool Timeline is particularly sensitive when it comes to copyright, so acknowledging our resources is critical, which is why we do so at the bottom of our posts. However, we don’t feel it’s right (or legal) to copy and paste content from those resources, implying it’s our own. Until recently, we would have to rewrite borrowed content without any AI assistance. ChatGPT helps but can’t always do it on its own. We have to rewrite most of our content ourselves, including what’s come from ChatGPT, mainly to make the posts suit being in a timeline with a Blackpool focus.
David Slattery-Christy
David Slattery-Christy has been invaluable, adding detail only he could provide. He is a local historian as well as a published author. His resources have allowed him to write exclusive stories and find obscure images for Blackpool Timeline. Aside from approving content for the subjects he’s familiar with, David has written some of the posts himself.
Blackpool Council & Showtown Museum
We are extremely grateful to Blackpool Council and Showtown Museum for their continued support of Blackpool Timeline and for kindly granting permission to use images from their collections. Their generosity has enabled us to illustrate many of the stories that make Blackpool’s history so unique, and we greatly appreciate their commitment to helping preserve and celebrate the heritage of the town.
