The Volunteer Centre aims to provide support and inspiration for volunteers and organisations, and assist groups in developing volunteering in the community. As a nationally accredited Volunteer Centre, they are the local volunteering infrastructure organisation for Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde providing the core Volunteer Centre functions of: strategic development of volunteering, developing volunteer opportunities, brokerage, good practice development and being the voice of volunteering.
They are also Investing in Volunteers achievers, which is the is the UK quality standard for good practice in volunteer management. In addition to our core functions, they develop and deliver volunteering projects and programmes through contracts, service level agreements, grant funding and donations.
In April 2026, the Volunteer Centre entered a new chapter when it was re-launched under the name Community First. The organisation officially opened its doors to the public with an open day on 15 April, attracting a fantastic turnout from local residents, volunteers and community groups. The event showcased the centre’s renewed commitment to supporting volunteering, strengthening community connections and helping local people access a wide range of services and opportunities. The successful launch demonstrated the continued importance of community-led initiatives and highlighted the enthusiasm for volunteering across the area.
